Wireless Surround Sound Headphones Are Worth It

Let me first get one thing quite clear: You are not as good of a gamer as you could be. Don’t take that personally.  Most people aren’t.  Often it is for reasons as simple as the wrong mouse, a sticky keyboard, an uncomfortable chair that you’re constantly shifting in, taking your mind off the game just long enough to lose potential.  The biggest thing that gets in the way of good gamers becoming great is bad headphones.  If you don’t have worthwhile cordless stereo gaming headphones, particularly wireless surround sound headphones, you’re not doing yourself any favors.

Surround sound’s effects on gaming is one of the widest well kept secrets in the gaming world.  Ancient hunters that existed before the light bulb use many things when hunting their ‘mobs’. They use their eyes, just like a good gamer. They use their hands, just like a good gamer–and they use their ears.  Just like the really good gamers.  Equipping yourself with effective surround sound will give you that subconscious edge you need when gaming to make sure you end up with the most damage dealt in your party, just because you can pinpoint where the monster is coming from.

Surround sound headphones work a little different than surround sound speakers you install in your living room.  Surround sound speakers in your living room get informed by the sound in the TV to output X sound here, Y sound there, and Z sound there. You install X speaker in one location, Y speaker in another location and Z speaker in another location.  The combined result is that you have all the sound coming from everywhere.

On headphones, that doesn’t work so well.  Headphones have two locations:  your left ear and your right ear.  So they get around it by putting multiple tiny speakers in each ear set, so they combine to create the surround sound you need.  Make sure they work well, syncing up with your game, and you will not be disappointed by them.  Welcome to the world of really good gaming.
