My Top Video Hosting Sites

June 21, 2008 · Filed Under High Defintion Video, Photography, Travel, video · Comment

I’m constantly on the lookout for new ways to shoot and host internet videos. Video is such a fun hobby of mine and I’m still learning. Video on the internet is certainly a field of constant change.picture-28.png I would imagine that if Walt Disney were still alive, even he would be amazed at how far technology has come. Could you imagine taking a video class and looking over and seeing Walt Disney sitting there? Well, neither can I, maybe that’s a stretch. Videographers are always willing to learn. What’s amazing to me also, is that these folks are also willing to share their knowledge. It’s sort of an online fraternity. I want to thank all of those out there that freely share their skills and knowledge on the web.

For those who are interested in the gear. I shoot with a Canon XH A1 High Definition Video Camera. I edit with Final Cut Express from Apple. I’m very new to Final Cut Express and I have a lot to learn. The problem is finding the time to sit down and learn the program. It will take time. I edit on a MacBookPro 17″.

I use internet video hosting sites that are “free” to host my videos. Me and Free get along very well. One of my favorite video hosting site is Vimeo.picture-18.png The reason I like Vimeo is that this site will allow you to upload very large files of high-definition videos. Video files are very large and high definition files are even larger. It takes a lot of bandwidth to play these videos on the internet.

picture-20.pngI have recently found a new video hosting site that I like very much. If you enjoy watching or shooting video, may want to check this site out. It’s call Exposure Room. Exposureroom.com. I’ve uploaded a few videos to this site and the quality is outstanding. Membership is free. Remember what I said about free? It only took about 1 minute to set up my account. I was uploading a video in just a couple of minutes. You can check out my page on Exposure Room here. I love the fact that you can also upload your photos. I take a lot of high-def photos with my Canon XH A1 and this site allows viewers to view the photos in high definition. If you are into photography, you should put your photos on display on Exposure Room. A very cool feature is that you can embed your photos from ER to your own web site. See my example below of one of my photos embedded here on the Brunswick Broker. Click the photo to go to my photo page and click the large version. The quality is stunning.

There is a lot of talent on Exposure Room. I have enjoyed the work of Steven Dempsey for many months now. Steven is a very talented videographer/cinematographer. He specializes in nature videos and is well respected in the industry. You owe it to yourself to check out his videos. You can view Steven’s video page here. Below is a video from Steven Dempsey that I especially like. It’s called Snoqualmie. I hope you enjoy it and be sure to check out his page for more of his work. Click the link below his video to view it in a much larger high-definition format.

If you attempt to watch a video and get a window asking you to update your Adobe Flash Player, it’s ok and it’s safe. You need the updated player to view the videos.

How To Build A House, Construction Check Off List

Ok, here we are. We have a building lot that has been cleared and pilings are set for our new “ocean style” house on pilings in Holden Beach, NC but how did we get our construction to this point?

As a builder, it’s a great feeling to watch a building start to rise from the dirt, but there is a lot of work that must happen first. A client usually does not realize the time, effort and costs just to get a house to the point where you see it in the photo above, and it’s no where near completion. We have just started!

Let’s look at what has happened in the form of a list to get us where we are today.

The Brunswick Islander, Beach House On Pilings Is Now Under Construction

June 7, 2008 · Filed Under Brunswick Landing, New Construction, New Homes · Comment

Last week we started construction of the “Brunswick Islander”. The Islander is a 1344 sq. ft. beach home on pilings. Located in Holden Beach, NC in the quiet little subdivision of Brunswick Landing. If you are looking for Holden Beach Real Estate, this certainly deserves your attention.

2558857761_9d0ccee941_o.jpg

The picture above is a rendering of the final product.

Arguably the best new construction value in Brunswick County, NC. $249,900 with an elevator.

If you have never experienced the convenience of an elevator in a home, let me tell you, there is nothing quite like it. I’m not a lazy person by any stretch and many times I skip the elevator and hit the stairs just to give a jumpstart to my heart. However, when you have a vehicle full of grocery bags or luggage, that elevator door is an awesome site.

We have an elevator in the D & S Building Contractors “Model Home”. Our guests who view this home certainly appreciate it. As a builder, we take into consideration that an elevator is really not a luxury, it’s a necessity. You are all invited to tour our model and experience the convenience of our 3-landing elevator for yourself. All D & S homes built in Brunswick Landing will feature elevators. If you are considering building 2-stories or more, an elevator should be in your plans.

Videos of this project are coming soon. If you would like to follow me while I show you the construction process, please subscribe to the BrunswickBroker so you will not miss a single entry.

Preserving a Piece of Coastal North Carolina History

The old Long Beach Pier that stood on Oak Island, NC may be long gone but not forgotten. Once, the longest pier in the state of NC, it served many and I fished on it myself many times in my lifetime.

We are preserving a piece of this coastal NC history at Brunswick Landing in Holden Beach, NC. Over the last couple of years I came to know the man who took the pier down to make room for oceanfront condo’s on Oak Island. I salvaged some of the pilings as he took them down because I had an idea.

My business partner, Doug Weaver, and myself had an idea to use the pilings to build our entrance to our new subdivision. Our entrance monument would always carry a little special sentiment.

How To Make Yourself Smarter By Buying A Phone

May 26, 2008 · Filed Under Smartphone · 1 Comment

picture-53.pngI finally did it. I got a Blackberry from Alltel. They say it’s a smart phone. I’m not sure how smart it is yet, but I love gadgets. I knew the day would come sooner or later and I was always hoping sooner. If you don’t have a phone that will make coffee nowadays you are either falling way behind or you at least feel as if you are behind the rest of the world. My son Jake had pleaded to me a few months ago that he needed a smart phone. I questioned this need of his. He promised that it would help him in college and be able to keep up with his schedule and study better, thus good grades would be the result. He talked a good game, so his Mother and I bought him a Palm phone for his birthday. Lo and behold, his grades were outstanding and I’m talking physics and microeconomics.

Will it help me compete in the world of Real Estate? I think so or at least I certainly hope so. The reason I got a Blackberry was for business. Specifically, email. Over the last few months I have attempted to convert everything I possibly could over to my new MacBookPro from Apple. Unfortunately, my real estate email services is Internet Explorer based. The only way I can check my email is to get to a Windows PC. In such a competitive line of work, I need to respond very quickly to email. To the rescue came the Blackberry.

picture-54.pngEinstein certainly got by ok without a smart phone but one has to wonder how much smarter he would have been if he had been using a Blackberry? Hmmm….

I could not believe how easy the email set up on the Blackberry was. I really figured I would have to bury myself in a manual to figure it out. I just knew that I would have to configure POP servers and SMTP servers and go through a lot of aggravation. Boy, was I wrong and very happy about being wrong.

The ability to travel across this entire country in a single day, still amazes me.

I’ve done it a few times but the wonder of it still gets me.

We have been traveling for the last week in Oregon. Luanne had a conference in Portland. I went out for a few days of rest and relaxation. I’ve been there before and just fell in love with the beauty of the state.

Video As A Business Tool And A Hobby

May 11, 2008 · Filed Under video · Comment

I certainly believe in the power of video as a business tool but for most people who shoot video, I think it all starts as a hobby.

I like to shoot fun stuff too.

Here is a video I shot one very cold day at the Holden Beach Fishing Pier.

Here is the scenario:

You are out of town and you are very interested in viewing a property.

You have 2 choices.

1. Pack up, travel and take a chance.

2. Enlist me as your buyers agent and sometimes I can save you a trip.

You decide.

Here is an example of a property video I shot for someone out of town but interested in a particular property.
