If you visit your local electronics store you will notice that most of the sets that on display are high definition televisions. These sets look amazing to a point that even if they have a higher price they sell like hot cakes. As more time passes you will find less conventional televisions around and more HDTVs. This is because mostly everyone prefers high definition to standard definition and the reasons are obvious.

The first and more important thing about these TVs is that they use a lot of pixels to create the picture. A greater number of pixels also mean the they are smaller and the smaller and more numerous the smoother and more detailed the picture looks.

The second thing is that HD is not only picture it is also sound. 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound is the standard for all things high definition and it packs a lot of punch and while it is also used in systems using standard resolutions HD takes advantage of it. 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound uses five directional channels and a subwoofer for a mind blowing experience.

The third thing is that the aspect ratio that these resolutions use is 16:9 Widescreen. This helps a lot in getting the movie theater feel and is great for movies with amazing landscapes. Widescreen doubles the fun of watching movies and sport events because you actually see more of what is happening than you would if you tried to fit everything inside a 4:3 aspect ratio like the one that is normally used in standard definition.

If you are still unsure about HDTVs then you may visit your local store and pay close attention to the products that are on display. Just a few minutes and you will want to bring one of these sets into your home. Just remember that they also need to be fed with sources that are recorded using HD resolutions in order to do their magic.
